President Trump holds a cabinet meeting at Camp David – July 31, 2026

President Trump on Wednesday told reporters at a cabinet meeting that he believes Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is to blame for a cyber attack in the state, not the Iranians.

A reported cyber attack targeted water systems in at least seven states, including Minnesota, this week. According to CBS, more than 30 water systems across Minnesota were impacted, and multiple federal agencies were investigating the cause.

The New York Times reported that Iran is a suspect in the hack, amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Early in the cabinet meeting, Trump briefly addressed the incident, dismissing the notion that Iran was behind the attack.

“Today, I just want to mention that today we heard in Minnesota there was a cyber attack, and they blamed it on Iran. I don’t think so,” the President said.

“I blame it on Minnesota because they’re grossly incompetent.”

“There was a cyber attack of 30 water plants, and I would blame it on Minnesota and the Governor, the corrupt governor of Minnesota,” he added, ridiculing the claim of Iranian interference.

Trump further noted, “Iran should be so lucky. Iran’s got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota.

Later, Trump was asked a shouted question about whether Iran was behind the cyber attack as he dismissed the press, and he went off on the “grossly incompetent” governor, Tim Walz.

“I think the governor is behind it. I don’t think there was an Iranian cyber attack. I think that Minnesota ought to get its act together. It’s one of the worst-run states,” Trump said before saying that his White House anti-fraud task force, led by Vice President Vance, continues to find  “tremendous corruption in Minnesota.”

A new report from Vance, Trump said, reveals “Massive future things having to do with corruption in Minnesota are happening right now.

Trump: No, I think Minnesota is behind it. You know who’s behind it? Minnesota, because they’re grossly incompetent. I think the governor is behind it. I don’t think there was an Iranian cyber attack. I think that Minnesota ought to get its act together. It’s one of the worst-run states. JD will tell you. He found tremendous corruption in Minnesota. And by the way, just gave me a report. Massive, massive future things having to do with corruption in Minnesota are happening right now.
