The Issue with Biden-Harris.

Here’s the bottom line. We are living in House of Cards. Season 5. Chapter 53.

A tremendous turn of events down in quiet rooms we, as a public, are unaware of. All four candidates – Trump, Pence, Biden, Harris – all represent the core issue we face as world beings. Those who have the power financially or through established connections will continue to dictate our legislation. Though Trump and Pence are known for ‘draining the swamp’ let’s leave that conversation to another time and start with the Democrats Candidate.

First up, Joe Biden:

Senator Biden has been in office since 1972. That creates a lifetime of sticky situations, major accomplishments, fallbacks, quid-pro-quos, and a struggle to continue to remain in power. Senator Biden has only known how to be a politician. The claims to major legislations like the Violent Crime and Control and Law Enforcement Act and the Violence Against Women Act, yet the quiet recognition of his opposition to desegregation and his recent commentary directed at the Black community causes the party to cringe. Yet, his social media presence to hide the fact enables us to continue supporting Biden, no matter the sentiment. Season 5 Chapter 55. He knows how to illuminate the positive, and fog the negative, which does not make for a person who desires to be in office for the right reason, but instead an individual whose true ambition is his political title. Nonetheless, he remains one of our options. A settlement of the vastly contentious democratic party. “Settle for Biden” rings all too true.

Now, Kamala Harris:

Yes, she represents a new era of diversity in our government systems. Never before in history has a woman campaigned as vice president candidate. This is a moment to celebrate surely! Every child, teen, adult looking up to our power structures finally witnessing a more representative government. As a young woman, I have firsthand witnessed the charged commentary about my performance based on my gender. I learned early on, women should always support women for sadly it seems everyone is out to bring us down.

In small ways and in large ways.

Small being the snide remarks, the constant objectification, the condescending remarks based on how we look, how we act, how we speak. Large being women still receive less pay than men (ask me if you don’t believe me), women being viewed as a target audience for cleaning products, homecare, presumptions of careers, and the lack of safety we feel doing daily tasks.

Therefore, the issue is not meant to bring down the U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, but rather illuminate the foundational issue that she and U.S. Senator Joe Biden both represent an establishment that’s meant to appease the middle rather than shake up history for years to come. Nonetheless, U.S. Senator Harris represents the establishment as an Attorney General. In this position, she focused mainly on crime, so here’s a look. Her stances are strong politically, except her past rhetoric, what she claims, and the actual situation raises eyebrows. She publicly took credit for the vast expansion of police officers wearing body cameras, except in reality, she instead held the following stance, “I as a general matter believe that we should invest in the ability of law enforcement leaders in specific regions and with their departments to use [their] discretion to figure out what technology they are going to adopt based on needs that they have and resources they have,” Harris told reporters in Sacramento in May 2015.” (Marie Claire)

Meaning, though she personally may believe all police officers should wear body cameras, and she took credit for such a stance, she did not use her position to do exactly what the media claimed. And in the end, the bill failed. She faced criticism, yet you may not have known this story for her activeness of Twitter seems to overpower her past actions. In addition, in her earlier career, a mere ten years ago, she passed a law that criminalized parents for allowing their children pre high school to miss more than ten percent of school days.(New York Times).

My point in illuminating her past is the same point I make with Joe Biden. As a politician, they have learned how to manipulate their past to only seem good. Any misstep in their life has been hidden by a new comment, a sincere apology, a joke, or an entertainment play. They have learned to be a politician, and as a voter, it seems disingenuous.

I am not in the game of chess. Our nation is not in a position to accept a settlement or a filler-president. This is not House of Cards, but why do I feel like if Biden- Harris were to win, we would end up entering Season 6 Chapter 66.
