Graham Platner, a leftist extremist who ran for Senate in Maine as a Democrat, received strong backing from inside Maine’s educational world.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Platner, who won over 70% of the vote in the state’s Democratic primary, dropped out of the race the day after another rape allegation came out against him.
According to Campus Reform, “Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) President Laura Freid gave Platner’s campaign $500, while Bowdoin College’s Mike Ranen gave $200, campaign finance records from the Federal Election Commission show.”
As we now know, “Platner chose to withdraw from the Maine Senate race after rape allegations and mounting scrutiny over his past. More than $13,000 came from other higher-ed officials across Maine.”
Political donations from the education sector to Dems are common, but donations to a radical like Platner are especially alarming.
“The higher-ed officials donated even after some of Platner’s most damaging controversies had already come to light.”
“In October, CNN uncovered Reddit posts in which Platner described himself as a ‘communist,’ criticized police, and berated rural white Americans. In one post addressing sexual assault, Platner suggested victims should ‘take some responsibility’ for themselves.”
The educators’ donations reveal tremendous hypocrisy and a lack of professional judgment.
“MECA&D’s Office of the President webpage highlights that its ‘equity-and-belonging’ commitment informs ‘all aspects’ of the college, raising questions about why its president donated to a candidate awash in allegations involving sexual misconduct, a Nazi-linked tattoo, and derogatory comments toward a specific demographic.”
“Ranen’s own Bowdoin profile lists ‘inclusion initiatives’ among his responsibilities, making his $200 donation to Platner a particularly sharp contrast given Platner’s widely reported personal and political baggage.”
“Bowdoin’s mission statement says the college seeks to foster a moral environment ‘free of fear and intimidation,’ while MECA&D publicly emphasizes equity, belonging, and institutional responsibility.”
They left is seemingly willing to support anyone, regardless of character, as long as they adhere to woke, far-left ideals.
The decision to push Platner out seems to have been made more out of a desire to increase power, as his poll numbers suggested he might no longer be viable, rather than based on principle.
At a minimum, it should be a red flag that universities are supporting candidates with Nazi tattoos and communist anti-American views.
